Melbourne Wedding Ceremony Flowers with Archway Design

Lucy & Chris' Wedding Flowers at Rippon Lea Estate

Lucy and Chris were married at Rippon Lea Estate on a warm summer day, with the gardens and heritage character of the venue shaping the mood from the very beginning. It was the sort of wedding where the setting already carried so much beauty, so my role was to make sure the flowers sat naturally within it and helped give the day its own sense of rhythm and atmosphere.

Rippon Lea Estate is one of those Melbourne wedding venues that does not need much forcing. The gardens are generous, the interiors have real presence, and there is a softness to the estate that works particularly well with elegant wedding flowers.

For Lucy and Chris, that balance felt exactly right. They wanted the day to feel polished, welcoming and quietly romantic, and the venue gave us the perfect foundation for that.

The Garden Ceremony

Guests were welcomed onto the main lawn with drinks outdoors, which immediately set an easy, relaxed tone for the ceremony. The garden setting was styled with a 2.4-metre greenery archway and grand urns filled with seasonal flowers, framed by elegant furniture, market umbrellas and an ivory runner.

What I liked most was that the flowers gave shape to the space without overwhelming it. At a venue like Rippon Lea Estate, that restraint matters.

Lucy the Bride holding Wedding Bouquet

Lucy’s bouquet was made with long-stemmed reflexed ivory roses. I wanted it to feel classic and beautifully resolved, with enough presence to hold its own against the setting, but without becoming too formal.

It worked especially well with her gown and the softness of the garden ceremony, and gave the bridal look a sense of calm polish.

Lucy and Ava at Wedding

Chris waited in a sharp black-tie suit, and alongside him was their daughter Ava, who added one of the loveliest moments of the day. Just before Lucy’s entrance, Ava made a quick dash away from the aisle, and I gently carried her down so she still felt part of everything.

It was a small moment, but a very real one, and those are often the details that stay with you.

Lucy and Chris exchanged vows in a ceremony that felt deeply personal, with that lovely balance of laughter, emotion and stillness that makes a wedding feel genuine rather than staged. The garden setting, the flowers and the people all worked together in a way that felt very natural.

The Reception at Rippon Lea Estate

After the ceremony, guests moved into the reception as a light rain began to fall, which only added to the mood of the afternoon. Inside, the room had been planned around a long central table seating 30 guests, with round tables arranged on either side.

It was a strong layout for the space, and it gave the reception both intimacy and scale.

For the reception flowers, I used seasonal blooms in white, lemon and green tones, arranged in contemporary white footed vases. I also added fruit including figs, green grapes and limes, which brought texture and freshness to the tables without making them feel overworked.

At Rippon Lea Estate, details like this can work beautifully because the venue already carries so much romance. The flowers do not need to shout. They simply need to feel right in the room.

Upstairs, the couple created a lounge area and dessert station, which gave guests another layer to the evening and helped the whole celebration feel generous and considered.

As the formalities gave way to speeches, dancing and conversation, the flowers carried through quietly, connecting the ceremony and reception in a way that felt cohesive without ever becoming too styled.

For Lucy and Chris, my focus was on creating flowers that felt in step with both the venue and the couple. The brief called for elegance, but not stiffness, and for flowers that brought softness and beauty without taking over the day.

That is often where the most successful wedding flowers sit. They support the setting, they hold the tone of the celebration, and they help everything feel more complete.

Working at Rippon Lea Estate, I always come back to that idea of balance. The venue has enough character to carry a wedding beautifully on its own, so the flowers need to respond to it rather than compete with it.

Here, the bridal bouquet, ceremony flowers and reception arrangements all played their part in that way.

A Rippon Lea Estate Wedding to Remember

Lucy and Chris’ wedding had a warmth to it that stayed with me. The flowers, the venue and the pace of the day all felt aligned, and that is always what I hope for when I am designing wedding flowers.

Nothing felt forced. It was simply a beautiful celebration in a setting that suited them perfectly.

If you are planning a wedding at Rippon Lea Estate and looking for a Melbourne Wedding Florist, we would be delighted to help create flowers that feel right for the setting and right for you.

A special thank you to Stori Films and Mia Sara Photography for capturing the day so beautifully.
