Your wedding flowers are more than decorations, they’re part of your story. The moment you hold your bouquet, walk into your ceremony, or see your reception beautifully styled, those flowers become part of your memory. That’s why we’ve created this simple, stress-free guide to help you care for your flowers on your wedding day, whether you collect them from our Melbourne studio or have them delivered directly to your venue.
Every Kate Hill Flowers wedding design leaves our studio perfectly hydrated, beautifully balanced, and ready for its moment. With a little mindful care, your blooms will stay radiant from first look to last toast.
When Your Flowers Arrive

Each of our wedding flowers, whether a bridal bouquet, bridesmaid bouquet, or table design, comes carefully packaged in our luxury Kate Hill Flowers bag. Inside, a custom water vessel keeps your flowers hydrated and stable, making them perfect for transport.
If you’re collecting your flowers or having them delivered early, here’s what to do:
-
Keep them cool and shaded. Place your flowers in a cool room away from sunlight, drafts, or heating. Ideal temperature is around 18–20 °C.
-
Leave the packaging intact until use. The bag and vessel are designed to protect and hydrate your blooms. Removing them too soon can disturb their structure.
-
Avoid domestic fridges. Household refrigerators are too cold and can damage delicate petals, particularly roses, orchids, and hydrangeas.
If you’re travelling beyond Melbourne, perhaps to a rural, regional, or country-town venue, the stable bag containing your water vessel will make the journey simple. Keep your flowers upright and shaded inside your car, ideally in air-conditioning, and they’ll remain fresh for several hours.
The Night Before Your Wedding

If your flowers arrive the day before, a touch of attention ensures they’ll look perfect in the morning.
-
Store them in a naturally cool room. Avoid garages or areas near fruit, which release ethylene gas that shortens flower life.
-
Refresh vases or water vessels if needed. For loose arrangements, change the water and trim stems on a slight angle using clean secateurs.
-
Minimise handling. Each design is carefully composed, so re-tying or repositioning can loosen its form. Trust that every stem has been placed with purpose.
The Morning of Your Wedding
The morning of your wedding can be full of energy and movement, but your flowers should stay calm and cool.
-
Open packaging gently. Remove tissue and wrapping with care to avoid catching petals.
-
Let them breathe. If they’ve been in the bag overnight, allow a few minutes for the flowers to lift naturally.
-
Keep bouquets in water as long as possible. Leave them in their vessels until just before you leave. Have a bridesmaid or family member gently dry the stems before walking down the aisle.
-
A light mist works wonders. A fine mist of cool water refreshes blooms, especially roses and foliage, before photos. Avoid misting orchids or hydrangeas, which can spot.
During the Day

Your flowers will move through sunlight, laughter, and countless embraces. A few small habits will help them stay perfect throughout.
-
Keep them shaded when possible. Direct sun can quickly fatigue delicate blooms.
-
Rehydrate between moments. Have a few vases or vessels of water available at your venue. Your stylist or photographer can always assist. Even ten minutes in water can bring flowers back to life after portraits or travel, especially on a hot day.
-
Hold with care. Always hold your bouquet by the ribbon binding rather than the blooms themselves to avoid bruising petals or loosening the design.
After the Celebration

Once the night ends, your flowers can still bring joy for days after.
-
Take them home. Trim stems and place them in fresh water to enjoy their beauty through the week.
-
Change the water daily. This keeps stems clear and petals hydrated.
-
Preserve your memories. Some brides love pressing a few blooms or commissioning a professional preservation to keep their bouquet as a keepsake.
