Tanya and Ryon’s wedding at Eureka 89 was a bold, generous and deeply personal winter celebration, set high above Melbourne with sweeping views across the city.
Their floral brief was full of warmth, colour and meaning. They wanted the day to reflect their love of vibrant tones, their traditional values and the joy of gathering guests who had travelled from interstate and overseas to celebrate with them. Eureka 89 gave the wedding a distinctly Melbourne setting, while the flowers brought richness, movement and a wonderful sense of occasion into the room.
A Melbourne Wedding High Above the City
Eureka 89 is a modern venue located on the 89th floor of Melbourne’s Eureka building in Southbank. With its city views, contemporary interiors and considered hospitality, it was a fitting choice for a wedding designed to feel memorable from the moment guests arrived.
Because both the ceremony and reception were held within the venue, the floral design needed to help shape each part of the day. The flowers had to create a strong focal point for the ceremony, then carry that same sense of colour and celebration through into the evening reception.
A Bold Winter Floral Palette
Tanya and Ryon were drawn to colour, so we worked with a rich winter palette of hot pink, red, orange and gold. The result was vibrant and expressive without feeling unsettled. Each tone had its place, and together they created a sense of warmth that was especially beautiful against the clean, modern setting of Eureka 89.
This was not a soft pastel wedding, nor did it need to be. The flowers were designed to feel confident, joyful and layered, with enough depth to honour the couple’s personal style and the significance of the occasion.
Hanging Ceremony Flowers and Traditional Garlands
For the ceremony, we created a custom hanging floral installation positioned above Tanya and Ryon. It acted as a suspended altar and a natural focal point within the room, framing the couple without enclosing them.
The installation was made from individually wired, four-metre-long floral and foliage garlands. Each garland took time and care to prepare, with hundreds of orchid bunches worked through the design in bold tones of pink, red, orange and gold. The floral and foliage garlands also reflected Ryon’s Indian heritage, bringing cultural meaning into the design in a way that felt personal and considered.
The ceremony setting was finished with a generous scattering of fresh, fragrant rose petals in similarly rich tones. Tanya and Ryon also each wore a floral garland as part of their traditional ceremony, which brought another layer of intimacy and symbolism to the day.
Reception Flowers with Candlelight and Colour
For the reception, we continued the same bold palette through the room using seasonal flowers, textural foliages and warm candlelight. At a venue like Eureka 89, where the view and architecture already play such an important role, the flowers needed to feel generous without overwhelming the space.
We styled the reception with floral hedges, glowing candlelight and richly coloured arrangements that gave the room depth as the evening unfolded. The combination of colour and candlelight created a warm, celebratory atmosphere, which suited the couple beautifully.
There is something particularly powerful about using bold flowers in winter. They bring energy, warmth and a sense of abundance to the room, especially when paired with layered textures and thoughtful lighting.
Seasonal Winter Flowers Used Throughout the Wedding
The wedding flowers included double ranunculus, hellebores, freesias, tulips, mokara orchids, cymbidium orchids, cottage roses and magnolia. Many of these were among Tanya’s favourite flowers, which made the floral selection feel even more personal.
Working with a bold palette requires careful judgement. The colours need to feel intentional rather than busy, and the flower varieties need enough form and texture to hold their own. Orchids brought movement and richness, roses added romance, tulips and ranunculus softened the palette, while magnolia and foliage gave the arrangements structure and depth.
