As a wedding florist, some weddings just stay with you forever - Luc and Alistar’s being one of them. I’ve been meaning to share their incredible wedding story for quite some time, but it was such an emotional journey for everyone involved that I needed some time to do it justice.
Luc and Alistar had initially planned to celebrate their dream wedding at Sketch in Docklands, a venue they had fallen in love with. However, their dreams were shattered when they learned the venue was closing after they had already booked it. Few things are as heartbreaking as having to reimagine your dream wedding, but their journey didn’t stop there. The challenges continued as Melbourne’s COVID lockdowns forced them to postpone their wedding multiple times. So many times, in fact, that I lost count.
As their wedding florist, my heart completely broke for them. Finding a new venue is stressful enough, let alone dealing with repeated postponements and uncertainty. But I firmly believe that things happen for a reason (even if I sometimes question it!), especially when it comes to dream wedding days. And in the end, Luc and Alistar’s patience and resistance paid off. On Saturday, 29 October 2022, they finally celebrated their wedding at the breathtaking George Ballroom in St Kilda, a venue that proved to be the perfect setting for their long-awaited day.
The day was nothing short of magical. Happy tears flowed freely from the grooms, their loved ones, and even us suppliers. It was an overwhelming moment of joy, relief, and love, making every challenge along the way worth it.
A Ceremony to Cherish
Luc and Alistar’s ceremony and reception were both held at The George Ballroom, a stunning venue located in St Kilda, which provided an exquisite backdrop for such a stylish couple. The ceremony was set against the venue’s far back wall, transformed into a spring wonderland. We designed a floral installation bursting with their favourite snowball viburnums, lush spring foliages, crisp white roses, and cascading white Phalaenopsis orchids. The effect was ethereal, where timeless elegance met modern romance.
We worked closely with Weddings of Distinction, who were the couple’s wedding planner and stylist who supplied the gold stands, LED candles, and elegant décor elements, as well as the on-the-day coordinator to bring everything together seamlessly. Varying-sized gold stands held floral arrangements that appeared to explode with blooms, while masses of LED candles nestled around the space, creating a warm, inviting glow.
Behind the scenes, I had the privilege of witnessing one of the most heartwarming moments of the day. Standing back of house, I watched as Alistar, his bridal party, and his family overcome with anticipation and emotion before stepping into the ceremony. Their energy was incredibly emotional and it a moment I would cherish forever.
A Seamless Reception Transformation
Once the ceremony concluded, it was time for a swift transformation. With just 45 minutes, the incredible teams from Damm Event, Weddings of Distinction, and Kate Hill Flowers worked in perfect harmony to turn the ceremony space into a stunning reception setting.
The reception featured three long guest tables, draped in black linen for a dramatic and elegant touch. The centrepieces ran continuously down the length of each table, spilling onto the floor in a breathtaking cascade of flowers. LED pillar candles lined the tables, casting a soft, romantic glow. Many of the ceremony flowers were thoughtfully repurposed for the reception, ensuring continuity in the design and maximising the floral impact.
The transition was flawless, thanks to the incredible teamwork and the advantage of having the ceremony and reception in the same indoor space.
A Stylish Affair
Luc and Alistar are undoubtedly one of the most stylish couples I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Every detail reflected their impeccable taste, from their sophisticated wedding attire to the effortlessly chic aesthetic of their bridal party. The bridesmaids carried long-stemmed white reflexed rose bouquets, which complemented their black-tie gowns perfectly.
This wedding was not just an event, it was a testament to love, patience and a forever love.
A Lasting Connection
Some of my clients become friends, and I feel truly blessed that Luc and Alistar have remained such cherished clients of Kate Hill Flowers. Their wedding will always hold a special place in my heart, not only because of its beauty but because of the journey that led them there.
