Getting the most out of your Spring Blooms

Spring is such a beautiful time of year for flowers and it's a great time to get out and buy fresh cut flowers for home. Your soul and home will thank you for it.

I would like to share some advice on how to make the most of your Spring blooms.

Blossoms, from crab apple, cherry, lilac, viburnum to dogwood can be hard work and messy! Their woody stems must be cut with a clean florist knife or snips and placed into fresh water immediately. Failing to do this could result in the blossom dying quickly (within hours or a day). Blossom stems must be clear of foliage or flower and the water must be refreshed daily.

Hellebores, Sweet peas, Hyacinths, Tree Peonies, Freesias, and Tulips prefer a cool (below 18 degrees) room temperature, so it's ideal to keep them away from warm heated rooms or warm direct sunlight. Stems must be trimmed and flowers must be arranged into a fresh vase of cool water daily. Clean your vase with a drop of bleach to ensure any bacteria is removed.

If you have bought fresh blooms and followed the above care, you should enjoy your spring blooms for at least 5-11 days. The more care you give them, the longer they will give to you!
