A new “florist” on High Street, Prahran…

After nearly 5 years of scouring commercial real estate websites for the perfect retail premises, we finally opened the doors to our first retail store at 537 High Street, Prahran on the 10th February 2012.

While our South Melbourne studio has served us well for the last few years, and will continue to do so far large scale events, our new store helps us evolve from a private floral design studio, into a place where all flower lovers (and lovers of flower lovers) of all budgets can come in and experience our signature style of floral indulgence. Some exciting news!

After years of hunting around for the perfect retail premises, we have finally been handed the keys to our new retail store at 537 High Street, Prahran. Our South Melbourne studio will still continue to operate as per usual, but this new location will enable us to offer you a truly spectacular floral retail experience, which we believe will be unlike anything else in Australia.

We are aiming to open early February 2012, just in time for Valentines Day, but will keep you in the loop as we get closer to the date.

Big love to all and thank you for your continued support.

Kate.

Event Highlight | Ernst & Young – Entrepeneur of the Year Awards

With the event calendar well and truly overflowing, November is always huge month in Melbourne.

One of the biggest highlights for us this month was creating the floral designs for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards at Peninsula (Atlantic Group [V]). It was a spectacular event to be part of which took months of planning, prototyping and sourcing.

We worked closely with the incredibly professional and creative team behind Rizer, who we have had the pleasure of working with previously when Paloma Picasso visited Australia in 2009 for the launch of her Tiffany & Co. range.

Little miss popular

Peony (Paeonia) Roses have to be the most popular flower this time of year and it’s easy to see why they are such a favourite.

There are two forms, tree and herbaceous species. The tree varieties are the first to bloom in September (locally in Victoria) and the herbaceous varieties are sourced early October from New Zealand. Tree Peonies are much smaller and tend to only have a single layer of petals whereas the herbaceous varieties are much taller, fuller and more fragrant. Both species are available in many tones of pinks (pale, mid and coral) through to watermelon, dark red and grape tones.Peony Rose Vase Design Continue reading

Buttonhole guide for the Spring Racing Carnival

What separates the men from the boys at the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival? Why, the buttonholes of course.

The Spring Racing Carnival always brings out the best dressed men in town and it’s great to see so many keeping up the tradition of wearing a buttonhole or Boutonnière (French) on their jacket lapel to mark the significance of each race day.

Petra Ecclestone, without brakes

It’s not very often that there is a wedding that really raises the bar in just about every way. Not that we, the general public, actually see or hear of anyway.

Sure, there are always the Royals, Hollywood Pop Stars, and Mining Magnates trying their hardest, but what stand out for me with the wedding of Petra Ecclestone (daughter of Bernie Ecclestone) and James Stunt, in a nothing less than an Italian castle, is that it just seems to have a truly authentic style about it. The kind that money can’t buy.

Wedding Highlight | Lauren & Oliver

Wedding Bouquet
Friend’s weddings are always very special to me and I feel very emotional when designing them for many reasons (even more than usual, believe it or not!).

Knowing Lauren and Olly well gave me the advantage of really understanding their tastes and style, and what they were trying to achieve visually for themselves and their guests.

They both had very strong vision for their wedding day, with a creative brief to make it fun, fresh, romantic, sophisticated but ‘beachy’, and very Melbourne. Their choice of venue, Harbour Room in St Kilda, set the perfect backdrop and showcased some of the best aspects of Melbourne, which the couple wanted to share with their guests who were coming from all over the world. Tesselaar Tulip Festival

Last Sunday all the moons aligned and we were able to take drive up to Silvan for the annual Tessalaar Tulip Festival.

I actually worked in the Tesselaar empire for a few years in their wholesale operation but having never actually made it up to their farm, it was great to finally see it on such a beautiful day. Continue reading
